Noelle
Escaping the clubhouse is easier than it should be. Iâm not a prisoner here, so when I walk through the gates, the brother manning it doesnât give me a second look. He doesnât notice the fact my heart is pounding and my chest is heaving as my fear follows behind me like an angry dog.
I donât take anything with me, apart from a few things Levi has given me that have sentimental value. I donât know why I take them, only that I canât leave without them. It doesnât feel right to take the clothes and shoes. They were bought and paid for by the club. Everything I have in this life as Noelle comes from the club. I can never deny I was well looked after, which makes my guilt build.
Head down, dressed in my jean shorts and a club tee, I make my way to the tube station. My stomach rolls the further I get from the clubhouse. I can hardly draw in a full breath by the time I reach the main turnstile that leads down to the platform.
Every inch of my body aches with bone-deep pain. Leaving Levi is by far the hardest thing Iâve ever done outside of burying my sister. I swipe at the angry tears streaking down my cheeks as the train rolls into the station. This far underground, the air is cooler than the heat on the street level and I feel a shiver run over me as I step onto the carriage. No one says a word about my tears, and I realise how lonely the real world is. In the club, I had people who cared about me. Levi loved me.
The urge to get off at the next station and double back is overwhelming. I can tear up the note, I can pretend I never left, but I stay rooted in my seat. I canât go back. Levi claimed me. That changes everything, and not for the better.
I head straight for the office. I donât know where else to go. I feel cast adrift, like a ship lost at sea. I should probably go home first, clean up, dress appropriately, but my clothes have come to be my armour.
Getting off the tube, a couple of lads make some lewd comments at me. It wouldnât usually bother me, I have the weight of the Sons behind me, but thatâs no longer the case. When they find out what Iâve done, theyâre going to hate me. They might do worse. I have enough evidence to point the finger at Tuck as being the one involved in the selling of these drugs, of recruiting kids, of killing them. I feel confident about writing the story, but I also feel dirty thinking about it. How can I do anything that will harm Levi? This certainly would damage the Sons. It will destroy them, tearing them apart piece by piece.
The heat hits me as I emerge from the underground and onto the street. Iâm far outside the Sonsâ territory now and I feel naked, exposed.
